Week 4 Reflection
I looked at my website and I still think I did well. I really hope it is seen in that way. My biggest worry is that it seems like I didnt do that much research but that is really the information I got from days of research. I actually had another interview with Dr. Gloria Scott and filmed it this time but it was on Friday and so I did not have the time to post the film. Also it was too long for an unverified account on youtube...haha..Um, what else. If I could do it all over again I wouldnt use weebly. It was really annoying when it cam to attaching files. I wanted to have my own videos and audio clips on it and documents, but it had so many limitations for the basic feature and kept saying to purchase this or this. I feel like it really limited my ability. Oh and there is one thing I didnt do that I kind of regret. I had made a poll and no one really filled it out except for a few. So I left it out, but I feel like a nice wide poll with varying demographics would have been a nice analytic touch. Another thing is I just found out there was a rubric, but I didnt have one because I was absent the day it was given off. I really just went off of information from my friends.

Week 3
I just finished it about two hours ago now. But I kept tweaking it until the last minute. I at one point had this panic because I was trying to play audio on it and I could hear it so i assumed the audio was corrupted so I got rid of all my videos but then about half an hour ago I logged on here and a pop up video came up and I could not hear it either so it must be my computer, which upsets me because I redid and deleted a page because of that. But still I think I did a good job, or at least I hope I did. I always have the feeling that I am doing something wrong. Ever since that response I feel like I am bound to completely destroy my grade.
As for my research...I feel like I got as much as I could. I didnt end up getting an interview from Terry although I spoke to him, he could not give me an interview until today and that goes for two other people. It has been a busy week for a lot of people, especially the members because a lot of them are clerks or official for elections. And also Mrs. Mumphord said she had to watch her shows after four...
I feel both like I got too much and not enough research. I feel like I read so many articles but not very many had to do with what I was trying to have my project be about. And I feel like I didnt get enough people. but I think my best. Ill just wait and see.

Week 2
I went to the library and there were quite a few clippings in the vertical files. One thing I noticed that caught me off guard was that the clipping from the seventies and early sixties has a description on it that read "C.C Negroes". I know that was socially acceptable term like black is today, but it still surprised me. Also, I did other searches and there really wasn't any like historical information just like articles about it which I thought was surprising. I had the original intention of making a video but I finshed two interviews and they did not want to film me, although they allowed me to record their voice. So I guess I am making a website which I really didn't. I am just not as good at doing website stuff, oddly I find camera work much much easier and enjoyable. I was gonna use wi, but everyone else was using weebly so I went with that. Uh, I went to the Little Martin House again. No one was there, and I have yet to here back on the email I sent. I keep neglecting to call Terry Mills. I emailed him though. Finding information on this topic has turned to not be very easy, the best history I am getting is people. I feel like its not enough though. It has definitely veered from my vison of my project. It's actually kind of proving that the NAACP is not...awesome here. I guess I am just annoyed. I should have gone with Menger as my topic. Or maybe not, I do not know. I didnt get to school today, so I missed my last class for Martinez, I really hope we didnt go over anything to vital. I dont get any classes next week which is awful. No class Monday, I have to be an election clerk Tuesday and I have no free period or History after my college classes. And I have two separate appointments and I am just worried, because I dont know. I feel like I do everything wrong.
Week 1
Okay, so the first week week of my project I was so excited to like interview members and like learn more about an organization my family has been involved with all my life and theirs too. One thing I know I want to get done is an interview with Terry Mills, the current president of the NAACP. My dad has known him for a really long time and they are kind of buds so I don't think that will be an issue. Right now I don't know who else. I recently went to democratic clerk training for the elections and I met Joel Mumphord and apparently well according to my dad, Mr. Mumphord was the president for two terms and he says that him and his mother are probably the knowledgeable about this topic. So, I asked Mr, Mumphord for his card and I am going to try and make an appointment to just interview him real quick. I also hope I can talk to his mom. My mom took me to heritage park to go visit the little Martin house which is headquarters for the NAACP.
Above is my mom posing. Isn't she adorable?
It was closed and has no hours listed and the phone goes straight to not even voice mail but this voice asking me for a password. I hope I will get to go inside, but it looks like I don't really know if I will able to. I have been there before but not to like look through their papers and stuff. I also went on their website and they have NO information at all. They don't even have the mission statement or hours they are open which is weird. I emailed them to ask for members willing to interview. Still no response.

Buc Days Interview
I have asked over twelve people what the significance of the Buccaneer Days had for the Corpus Christi community, and I wont lie. The responses varied minimally. They primarily followed a format of, "I dont know..." "I don't care" "It's not really significant.." or "Can I Google that?"
The most detailed response I received was from my father though. Although at the time I thought it extremely sparse of information and detail.
The information extracted from this interview simmered down to a few points.
My dad was born and raised in Rock Port, Texas. Even so, he had heard of Buc Days. His family, being of very low income never really traveled or went to carnivals though, so it was not until he was out of high school did he ever participate in the festivities and when he did, he was working them. He believes the significance comes only from it being a tradition and since it has long since been a tradition, it is therefore historical. So the buc days have happened during historical times and connects people. Like a generational connector. And that is why it is significant. To him though, its just a carnival.
My mom on the other hand grew up in Corpus Christi. She too though never went to the the festivities. She worked across the street from the Carnival one year though and rode two rides. She doesn't think it is significant. Her cousin though was a pirate queen. She kind of felt it was just a display of wealth at the time. She really has no other connection but that.

Introduction
I just realized I had not had the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Miranda Amey. I am a Junior at Collegiate High School and am in the U.S History 1302 class. Within my class I have chosen the topic of the NAACP for my local history project because I am very involved with the NAACP, find it very interesting and also I feel it is an often overlooked social organization in Corpus Christi because of the low African American population. My goals within the project are to get interviews with multiple members, find out the impact the NAACP has had on the community, and also to find the out what connections the local chapter has had in other NAACP events nationally.

New Scavenger Hunt
ANOTHER CHALLENGE!!!!!! HAAAAZZAAAAAHHHHH!
Mr. Martinez has posted again and this time there was no cryptic riddle.. so seven points for Slytherin. Instead there was on this image:
I am supposed to find where the current location is and then post a picture of it.
Update:
Apparently this is Sorghum field in 1984.
And after putting this image into Google search I have found out that in an article that i will link at the end, it is now Moore Plaza. I'll update with a current picture!
Update:
Here is the same area in 2014:
If you notice, the sign in the back says Moore Plaza. I look rather unhappy and that is because I am standing in Moore Plaza barefoot.
Here is the link to the old picture where I got my information of it being Moore Plaza.
